UnicycleSkills at BJC 2022

Our UnicycleSkills team is happy to announce that we will be part of the British Juggling Convention 2022, which will be held in Ramsgate from 12th to 17th April.

Our team is preparing a variety of fun unicycle events for you to join throughout the convention, including workshops for every skill level, fun games and competitions. Read more about our UnicycleSkills events below

Beginner Unicycle Workshops

Our UnicycleSkills team will run various unicycle workshops for beginners at BJC. We will have the best coaches and equipment ready for you. Everyone is welcome: We have taught people of all backgrounds and ages, from 5 years old up to 80 years old. Just come along and have fun!

Freestyle and Racing Workshops

Our UnicycleSkills team will run dedicated freestyle and racing workshops throughout BJC. You will learn about formation riding, first tricks and how to create a freestyle routine from our experienced freestyle coach Marie. There will also be a designated racing workshop, showing you how to best gain speed on your unicycle.

Unicycle Games

We will run a series of unicycle games, from unicycle sumo to fun races and team challenges – we’ll make sure that you have a fun time! Please make sure that you bring a helmet so you can take part in all our games and activities.

UnicycleSkills Freestyle Competition

Our team will be organising a unicycle freestyle competition for anyone taking part in BJC. Freestyle is the artistic form of unicycling. Riders perform tricks to music, sometimes involving costumes and props. The goal is to entertain the audience with showmanship and unicycle skills.

Our UnicycleSkills Freestyle Competition will be very laid back, with entries open until the morning of the competition and freestyle workshops throughout the convention to make sure that you have the tools to create a fun routine. It doesn’t matter what your skill level is! Joining and having fun is what counts here. We would especially like to encourage riders who have never competed in freestyle before to join this event as it is very beginner friendly.

There will be three categories for you to compete in: Individual, Pairs and Small Group (up to 8 riders). You are welcome to prepare a routine and sign up to the event prior to BJC, but you can also find other riders to pair up with during our workshops throughout the convention. The competition will be held on Saturday afternoon.

Routines for all categories will be a maximum of 2:30 min long. Keep in mind: They can also be shorter! You can either give us your own music on the day of the event, or go for a spontaneous show and let us decide on your music during the event.

To see what what freestyle looks like, watch the video on the left. This is a group that Marie coached in 2017. But remember: any theme, music, type of unicycle and skill level is welcome in this event.

For information on the contest, please contact Marie Schlenker at unicycleskills@gmail.com.

Pre-registration is open now!

UnicycleSkills Video Competition

Our team will be organising a unicycle video competition at the British Juggling Convention. Show us your best riding, we welcome all styles and skill levels!

You do not have to be the best rider in the world to compete in the video competition. Videos will be judged by the audience, so be creative and have fun. Here are some examples for inspiration!

The video competition will take place on Wednesday evening. Any video that has not been published anywhere else before can be entered into the competition. You may submit multiple videos. Videos must be in MP4 format and have a maximum run time of 5 minutes. Please submit videos to us via Wetransfer to unicycleskills@gmail.com
